Healthy chocolate mousse

Ingredients for mousse

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 2 – 4t honey
  • 2 – 3T cocoa powder (or even better, raw cocoa if you have it)
  • 2T coconut oil, melted to liquid form (just put the closed jar in some warm water)

Ingredients for base (if using)

  • ½ a packet of digestive biscuits, crushed
  • 2T melted butter or coconut oil

or

  • ½c dessicated coconut
  • ½c ground nuts
  • ±1T honey (to taste)
  • ±2T melted butter or coconut oil

Method

If you’re doing a base, make that first. Mix the biscuits or coconut, nuts and honey with the melted butter or coconut oil. Taste and add a bit more honey if you like, and if the mix still seems a bit dry, add a bit more coconut oil or butter.

Press the mix into a pie dish and put it into the freezer to set slightly while you make the filling.

Peel the bananas and avocados (removing the stones from the avos), and place them in a bowl. Blend until completely smooth – don’t worry if it goes through a lumpy phase.

Add 2T of the cocoa powder and 2t of the honey and blend again. Taste to see what you think, and add more cocoa powder and/or more honey if you like. When you have the taste right, add the melted coconut oil and blend again.

Pour into small individual bowls or one bigger one (on top of the base if you made one).

Leave to set in the fridge for at least 2 hours before serving (or put in the freezer to speed the process).

Serve as is, or with whipped or poured cream and/or fresh berries.
